The constant search for the essence of things by Domenico Liberti
Domenico Liberti is an illustrator and graphic designer from Salerno; from several years he lives and works in Milan. He studied Advertising Technique at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, then he took a one year break from the studies and in this period he worked in a communications agency where he began to get more and more passionate about graphics. Driven by this passion he studied as a self-taught and, at the same time, he attended a master’s degree course in Graphic Design in an academy in Milan, for a better approach to the world of the illustration he loves.
The bases for his creative process is the constant search for the essence of things:
“I like the idea of using simple shapes but at the same time I iinclude in my art a twist of colors and striking compositions. I think the most important goals for an artist is, undoubtedly, to find his own recognizable identity. (I hope to find mine sooner or later)”.
Domenico didn’t attend any artistic studied so he tried to experiment with different techniques and styles: oil or acrylic painting, collage, sprays and tattoos. In the end it was the world of graphics that influenced his illustrations the most.
Today Domenico is lucky enough to express himself in both his attitudes: as an illustrator and also as a graphic designer. His most important projects we want to mention are the ones with MUDEC – Museo delle Culture, Tecno Spa, COOP Italia, 24 Ore Cultura, Google Adsense and Musei di Verona.
His creative process starts with a deep research, then he make a draft exclusively on paper, whether it’s a general draft or the finished drawing. Next, the illustrations are translated into the digital version with Illustrator and Photoshop. In most of the cases the first draft is more articulate than the final one, this because Domenico tries to remove everything that seems superfluous to him, trying to reach a strong, free and at the same time essential trait . An important aspect in his representations is the relationship with color and recently he accompanied this drawings with small animations that make everything more dynamic and include a deep study of the human figure.
All these notions make his stroke definitely iconic and realistic, rich in details.
