Elena Toscano and her “dreaming” atmospheres
“Art is born from the need to represent my reality, between dreams and enveloping atmospheres.”
Refined, determined and elegant. This is how Elena Toscano introduces herself to our eyes, an Italian illustrator with a strong fashion background and a great passion for travel, combined with art and with the connection with nature. Since she was a child, drawing has had a predominant role in her life and art has always been at the center of her education.
She starts her path at the artistic secondary School, then at the University with a fashion course; from the internship in the world of fabrics to the experience with Jil Sander, from the life in Stockholm where she worked for Acne Studios to the return to Italy with the famous brand “Versace”: a curious traveler with 10 years of experience in the fashion industry that has given her a rich background, the protagonist of her current and accurate color selection.
Completely absorbed by the world of fashion, Elena soon realizes that something is missing in her life, in fact, she reflects that she has focused a lot on her career at the expense of herself. So she decides to dedicate some time to herself, taking a “break” of almost a year that will take her and her boyfriend to South America, the land of the magical “awakening”.
Here will be the sacred place where she will find her true essence, freeing her thoughts thanks to the continuous connection with the natural world (source of extreme energy for her). A path that will mark her definitely from the artistic and stylistic point of view: when she paints, in fact, she already starts from an idea that she mentally focuses and imagines, and that then takes shape through a careful selection of shapes and colors. What she cares most about is being able to convey to the public a comfortable atmosphere, a mix of relaxation and freshness.
We can define her style as depictive but at the same time abstract; she reinterprets situations with emphasized shapes, but without all those details irrelevant to the interpretation of the work.
“My works are made digitally and through painting. I like to represent reality with a touch of imagination: my paintings lead to an enveloping and relaxing atmosphere.”
An original appeal and a highly recognizable stroke, small daily cutaways of emotions and feelings that Elena translates into essential colors and shape.
