New Words for a New Energy: Ramona Iurato’s illustrations for Enel
Words can tell us about a world that has changed, but art can show us what will make it better!
The forms and uses of energy have multiplied, spreading in a thousand directions and opening up new possibilities. Enel is well aware of this, and with its project Parole Nuove per una Nuova Energia (New Words for a New Energy) has involved three Italian illustrators to interpret the new words of the energy with their creativity. The artists involved in this ambitious initiative (Ale Giorgini, Stefano Colferai and Ramona Iurato) were asked to illustrate a series of key words with the aim of revealing the world of energy today.
“A great cultural change is taking place and leads us to relate in a new way. Telling the changes of the world of energy and redrawing the “new” future that awaits us was definitely not an easy task, but it allowed me to shape the future reality, imagining the great responsibility and possibilities that this will entail for each of us.”
With these words Ramona Iurato reveals us her first impressions on this heartfelt topic. But let’s start with the three words she was assigned to:
- Diversity and Inclusion
- Serendipity
- “Open Power”
Her starting point was the meaning that the word ENERGY represents for each of us: the force that is created from people’s interactions, released from our relationships and that determines us. In fact, she explains that we as human beings are connected by invisible threads that influence us in many ways, but that we do not always perceive. Therefore, where there is energy there is also sharing, which in this historical moment is denied to us by necessity, but that soon we will return to appreciate.
To represent the concept of Diversity and Inclusion Ramona has chosen to draw a human chain of people from different professions. All individuals who coexist together, aware of their differences, are represented and expressed as an added value as it generates comparison and enrichment.
“ To support this idea, I deliberately chose strong colors, which would create a provocative energy and capture the attention of the public.”

The second word, more complex, is SERENDIPITY (letter. – The ability or good fortune to make by chance unexpected and happy discoveries, especially in the scientific field, while looking for something else) that here takes on the meaning of new space redesigned by humanity.
The opportunity then to imagine the future place of our daily life, different from what we were accustomed to, creates new languages that give life to something never seen before.
The example of this expression can be found in the dialogue depicted between two people, where Yellow (A) and Blue (B) give light to something new: Green (C).
This way Ramona wants to emphasize the chance that this historical moment is giving us, reinventing our daily life with a place where people can find each other for real.

The last and most significant expression selected is OPEN POWER: here are dominant the natural elements such as light, sun, the green of the lawn and the blue of the sky.
Elements are part of our primordial nature and push us towards a concrete transformation: the production of energy from renewable sources, supported by the commitment to face climate change. A crucial challenge where Enel, due to its history and ties with the territory, plays a key role in guiding Italy towards a model of sustainable growth, where the production of clean energy is only the first step.
A commitment that translates into a concrete path toward the energy generation of the future, which passes through a greater penetration of renewables and an increasingly widespread electrification of consumption. An action aimed at being responsible today in order to be competitive tomorrow, with the support of an energy that unifies, restores balance and at the same time opens our minds towards a conscious choice for a better tomorrow.
